Project 365: Day 14: 1st July 2011 – Ramp

Ramp at Train Station

Today was the day of Johan’s uncle’s 50th birthday party in York, and we went. This involved getting a train, then walking to the hotel, then taxis to and from the pub it was held in. The ramp at the train station is apparently not for public use, but I was allowed on it anyway (I guess I’m not a member of the public? :P).

The assistance for the train was excellent. Even though it wasn’t fully booked (we left it quite late) they were really helpful. We had booked the wheelchair space on the train, and it had a plug socket so I could use my laptop on it 🙂 Getting off at York was also easy.

I have also discovered that if you’re disabled and want to use a taxi, you better not be tall 😛 I had to duck quite a lot to get in the taxis in my wheelchair, and I’m not particularly tall for a human (though at 5’10”, I’m tall for a girl, plus it’s mostly legs). Luckily the drivers were helpful.

The pub was not disabled accessible at all, but the first taxi driver used his ramp to help me get in. Using the toilets meant Johan having to come into the ladies, which he was a bit uncomfortable about, and me having to go from my chair to the floor then to the toilet as my chair didn’t fit into the cubicles. It worked, but it hurt my arms a lot trying to pull myself off the floor.

Overall today has been good, though it was too loud at the party, and it was nice to meet Johan’s family. Tomorrow we travel home.

Project 365: Day 13: 30th June 2011 – What you looking at?

Penguin

(I realise this wasn’t posted when it says it was. This is because I forgot to copy it over from Facebook, then posted the more recent one before it. It would bug me if it were out of order on my blog though, so I’ve changed the date so it’s in the right place.)

Was a better day than yesterday, in that I could sit up without throwing up. Still nauseous, but not as bad. Spent time getting random achievements in World of Warcraft (exalted with the Argent Dawn, and Well Read). Also played a bit of Rock Band, but that didn’t go so well because my hands were too jerky.

Mostly a relaxing day 🙂

Project 365: Day 12: 29th June 2011 – Purple Violin

Purple Violin

Got up this morning feeling okay, went on my computer for a bit, took meds and then became really nauseous and sick 🙁 Have had to stay in bed the rest of the day as every time I try and sit up the nausea comes back.

The picture is of my purple violin. I’m currently listening to my guild in World of Warcraft raiding, and the raid leader was mentioning the boss putting blue vials in, and red vials in, then pointed out he wasn’t talking about violins. I found this funny, hence the picture of my purple violin 🙂 I’ve not been able to play it for a long time as I don’t have the strength to hold it, but I know it’s there waiting for me to get better 🙂

Project 365: Day 10: 27th June 2011 – Ice Lolly and Glee

Ice lolly and Glee

Was really hot when I got up this morning (two days in a row getting up with the carer, though it did help she was an hour later than normal). Spent a little time on my computer, but spent most of the day eating ice lollies and watching Glee from my bed.

There was a thunderstorm in the afternoon, so it’s a lot cooler now than it was. I also have a couple of bottles of WKD Purple that are making me feel better, as it was a bad pain/hayfever day 🙂 I really need to find some antihistamines.
