Meeting the Stars

Woo! What a day. This morning I slept, because of yesterday mostly. This afternoon we went over to a different hotel for the big Prisoner (Cell Block H) event. First was Retrospectively, Rita where Glenda Linscott showed how talented she is by acting out bits from various things she’s been in, ending with a short film about a real life story of how a woman got HIV from her husband (go to http://www.audaciousdreaming.com/ to find out more and donate). She even managed a convincing Scouse accent for one of them (it’s better than mine, and I only lived there for 16 years…). It was really enjoyable.

Next we went to the lobby bar for a bit while they set up the next part. During this time I was in a lot of pain and extremely tired, so was struggling a bit, but I don’t think I showed too much (actually, all day I was exhausted and in a lot of pain, and ended up losing it before the event started, but I think it was okay). When we went back up they’d set up all the tables for dinner, and both Glenda and Maggie Kirkpatrick came out. There were clips from Prisoner with them both, questions being asked, then they both commentated on an episode of Prisoner (692, or the last episode). This was enjoyable, and also funny when they were reminiscing about what was going on (plus Maggie had never seen the episode, even though it was mostly about her, which was also amusing).

After this everyone got their photo taken with them. They came to me at the end of this (I was in my wheelchair, and there was no way I was going to be able to walk to the front as my legs aren’t behaving today) and were really nice, even though by this point I could barely speak (noise, pain, people, exhaustion, and being overwhelmed didn’t help :P). I even managed to smile when they were being all tactile and and having their arms around me for the photos, even though it was very difficult for me. I think it was worth it.
HI
After the photos, it was time for food. All very nice, though I didn’t get dessert as there was none left by the time I was ready for it (the only really bad thing of the event), and for a while Glenda sat at our table and chatted to us. Maggie was also floating around. There were clips of Maggie on the projector while we ate, which was interesting. After the food Maggie and Glenda signed autographs, and I now own a couple of signed photos 🙂 My mum went up as it would have been awkward me trying to get there, but I watched things for a bit, and also chatted to Johan on Google Talk, which helped calm me down.

Next there was some footage shown of when Sammy Davis Jr. visited the Prisoner set, which was from Maggie’s collection (non labeled, some on Betamax). This was interesting to watch. Next was the charity auction, and my mum won a couple of photos (including a big signed one of the two stars that she was determined to win). The last thing were the thanks, and a song.

After that we left to go back to the hotel. Maggie came out while we were waiting for the taxi, said goodbye to us (she remembered my name :P) and waited for her taxi, and tried to steal ours at one point 😛 We came back and now I’m in bed, finishing this off and about to go to sleep. It was a great day and I really enjoyed it.

Om Nom Nom

Am in Birmingham in a hotel room so going to be short (yes, I really need to write longer posts soon…). The journey was okay, we got the assistance we needed at both Newcastle and Birmingham New Street (which I still hate, but it’s not as bad when someone’s taking you out). Spent the evening out with my mum, and am now absolutely knackered. We went for dinner at a posh Chinese restaurant, and had pork dumplings, crispy duck, lobster and oysters (very posh). It was all very yummy, and I’m now stuffed.

Tomorrow we’re going to see the Prisoner stuff, so I’m looking forward to that. Need to sleep first, though.

Prisoner

Today was a day of doing not very much. I woke up, messed around on my computer, had a bath, napped, played on the computer, raided, and will be going back to bed again in a minute.

Tomorrow I go to Birmingham with my mum. We are going to meet Maggie Kirkpatrick and Glenda Linscott on Sunday, after watching Retrospectively, Rita. We are staying two nights, which will mean missing college on Monday. I’m planning on taking my laptop, and my phone works as a modem (yay custom ROMs :D) so will be able to get online even if the wifi doesn’t work/is too expensive. I’m really looking forward to meeting them as I watched a lot of Prisoner Cell Block H when I was little (there wasn’t much else on at 4am…) and even now am a bit scared of the Freak. I’ve been catching up with some of the episodes and it’s reminded me of why I loved it- over the top storylines that I understand, brilliant characters and big dramatic events. I want to catch up even more now, but with over 600 episodes it may take a while.

I’m not at all ready for going, so will sleep now and get up earlyish tomorrow to get ready.

Braaains…

Another bad day, especially pain-wise. Currently my options are 1) bribe my doctor to give me some painkillers that maybe work, preferably without killing me or 2) become an alcoholic, since that’s the only thing I can currently get that works.

Had Computing today. I finally gave the presentation on storage devices (it’s really hard to present when you’re in lots of pain, half asleep and can’t really remember what it is you’re meant to be talking about, but I muddled through it). Then we had 20 minutes to research and create a presentation on an output device (laser printer for me). I panicked. There is simply no way I can research how something works, translate it into Danni-ish, retranslate it into something that’s understandable by other humans, and sort out the presentation in 20 minutes. I struggled last lesson with the 40 minutes for an input device. Of course, it didn’t help that I already wasn’t coping because I was exhausted and in more pain than is normal even for me at the moment.

Told Simin I’m not going to be in on Monday, as I’m travelling back from Birmingham at the time of my lesson. She wanted to know why, I fumbled a reason that vaguely relates to the actual reason (my thoughts and speech were very jumbled at this point, though I’m hoping it wasn’t too noticeable).

Johan picked me up, and I demanded to go to the MetroCentre as I was hungry. Probably not the best idea, but I did find a purple bag (I’ve been after one for months, and it was only £5) and got curry at the Wetherspoons curry night thingy. Also got vodka at Wetherspoons, which helped with the pain and not-copingness a bit.

Time for bed. Luckily no college tomorrow, so sorting stuff out before I go away for the weekend. I’ll explain more about that tomorrow.
